IoD Nigeria holds Council and EXCO 2021 Strategic Retreat
The Governing Council and Executive Committee of IoD Nigeria held a Strategic Retreat at the Jubilee Chalets, Epe, Lagos State. The Retreat which started on Friday, 26th March to 28th March, 2021 had the theme, “IoD 2021 -2025: Future Forward Planning.”
Like many other professional and membership organisations around the world, IoD Nigeria is operating in a rapidly evolving and increasingly complex and challenging business environment. It may recalled that over the past few years, the world has witnessed massive shifts in the global economy - a growing transition toward knowledge and service-based industry amid increasingly economic and workforce competitions and natural disasters, thereby placing new challenges and expectations on individuals, businesses and nations.
As a result, the Governing Council of the Institute, had in the past few years worked hard to reposition the Institute to address emerging challenges and engender greater impact in the fulfilment of its vision and mission. As part of effort towards realizing this noble objective, the Governing Council and the Executive Committee recently had a gruelling 3-day hybrid Retreat to review and approve a new vision, mission and a set of core values as well as a 5-year strategic plan for the Institute.
The key resource persons at the event were Dr. Doyin Salami, M.IoD - Keynote Speaker – who was unavoidably absent but whose paper was ably delivered by the DG/CEO of the Institute, Mr. Dele Alimi, M.IoD; and Mrs. Abimbola Adebakin - Moderator, while the Session Speakers were Prof Mike Ikupolati, M.IoD; Dr. Grant Akata, F.IoD; and Mr. Femi Awoyemi, F.IoD.
In his opening address, the President & Chairman of Governing Council of the Institute, Chief Chris O. Okunowo, F.IoD, appreciated the good turnout (online and physical) of the leadership of the Institute and expressed confidence that the Institute would be the better for it after the three-day exercise.
Going further, he noted that the 2021 Strategic Retreat was aimed at bringing to a remarkable end what began in 2016. He added that the Annual Strategic Retreat was a culture that started five years ago when the Council and Executive Committee of the Institute went on a 3-day Strategic Retreat with the theme, “Project 3Rs – Re-engineer, Re-energise & Re-position” in 2016.
He opined that five years down the line, the Governing Council had deemed it necessary to carry out an overhaul of the strategic decisions of 2016 and the subsequent years, and develop a comprehensive and workable 5-year strategic plan following the outcome of the 2020 Strategy session, which primarily focused on “Repositioning the Institute for Continued Relevance.”
He thereafter enjoined all the participants to make the most of the Retreat while assuring all that recommendations and inputs from every one of them would be expected to form the crux of the final recommendations and outcomes regarding the review of the final strategy report, which would be made available for the Council’s consideration and approval.
Finally, he thanked the Retreat Planning Team for the great job done, as well as all members of the Institute for the continued sacrifice of their time and resources towards the development of the Institute.
