Lucy Surhyel Newman has held various positions in a state-owned development finance institution, four commercial banks in Nigeria, and a global consulting firm. She spent over ten years as the Managing Director and CEO of a specialized professional services firm that included members from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, all commercial banks in Nigeria, and over 1,750 stakeholders both locally and internationally.
In addition to her professional roles, Lucy serves on boards, think tanks, jury panels, and multilateral missions. She is also a writer and the CEO of the Africa Private Sector Summit (APSS), a nonprofit organization focused on improving the business environment in Africa.
Lucy holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, an MBA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria. She also has an International Director Certification in Corporate Governance from INSEAD Business School in France.
She has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Thomas F. Gilbert Distinguished Professional Achievement Award from the International Society for Performance Improvement in 2019. Lucy has authored several professional articles on policies relevant to Nigeria and Africa, including her latest book, "African Leaders’ Tete A Tete: Navigating Entity Design and Prioritization for Systemic Outcomes," released in October 2022.
Lucy is married to Dr. Gabriel Rotimi Olokodana and has three adult sons and a teenage stepdaughter. More about her can be found on her website and social media profiles.
