OSCAR ONYEMA, F.CIOD Former Group CEO, Nigerian Exchange Group
Mr. Oscar N. Onyema recently served as the Group Managing Director and CEO of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group). He played a key role in transforming the organization into a non-operating holding company with various subsidiaries. Under his leadership, NGX Group experienced significant growth in both share price and profitability. Before this, he led The Nigerian Stock Exchange through a major transformation, improving its regulatory environment and expanding its market offerings. Mr. Onyema has extensive board experience, holding important positions at organizations such as the World Federation of Exchanges, EnterpriseNGR, NG Clearing Ltd, and the National Pension Commission of Nigeria. He has also chaired various committees that contributed to the strategic direction and success of these organizations. He has been influential in global financial markets, holding executive roles at NYSE Euronext Group and advising the London Stock Exchange Group. His career began in the technology sector with companies in Lagos. Academically, Mr. Onyema holds an MBA in Finance and Investments from the Zicklin School of Business, CUNY, and a BSc in Computer Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University. He has furthered his education through programs at prestigious institutions like Harvard Business School and INSEAD. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Chartered Institute of Directors and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers. His contributions have earned him numerous awards, including the Officer of The Order of the Niger (OON) and recognition as one of New African Magazine's 100 Most Influential Africans. As an author and speaker, Mr. Onyema has shared his insights at over 100 seminars in more than 25 countries and has been featured in major media outlets like CNN and Bloomberg.
