IoD Nigeria Plays Host To The Ethiopian Ambassador To Nigeria


The Ethiopian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Azanaw Tadesse Abreha recently paid a courtesy visit to the Institute.  The meeting which took place at 2pm on November 1, 2019 at the IoD Secretariat, 28, Cameron Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, was chaired by the President and Chairman of Council of IoD Nigeria, Chief Chris Okunowo, F.IoD.

 

Also present to join the President & Chairman of Council of IoD Nigeria to receive the Ethiopian Ambassador and his team were members of Management of the Institute, including Mr. Dele Alimi, M.IoD, Director General/CEO, Mr. Sunday Adenipekun, Director, Training & Capacity Development, Mr. Kene Nwanegbo, Assist. Director Legal & Corporate Services, Mr. kevin Nwanze, Assist. Research & Advocacy and; Dr. (Mrs.) Bunmi Ogbodu, Ag. Head, Membership Services.

 

 

According to the Ambassador, the objectives of the visit were to identify with the mission and values of IoD Nigeria, and to seek collaboration with the Institute to facilitate business opportunities and promote trade relationships between Ethiopia and Nigeria for business leaders and directors. Furthermore, Ambassador Abreha proposed to hold a Business Forum in collaboration with IoD Nigeria in 2020 on matters relating to Tourism, Manufacturing and Services.

In his response, Chief Okunowo, President & Chairman of Governing Council of IoD Nigeria appreciated the Ambassador and his team for the meeting, while noting that the proposed collaboration was auspicious given the timing of the visit and the enormous opportunities that both countries have to offer each other.

In his further remarks, Ambassador Abreha thanked IoD Nigeria for the warm reception accorded him and his team and for accepting to collaborate with the Ethiopian Embassy. He also offered to provide an opportunity for directors and business leaders to have sponsored business trips to Ethiopia in order to take advantage of the inherent opportunities in the country, while adding that details of the Embassy’s business programmes as well as the proposal for collaboration with IoD Nigeria would be made available to the Institute for review and feedback.

In response to the above, Chief Okunowo urged Amb. Abreha to make the proposal available on or before November 18, 2019 to enable the Institute review it, ahead of presenting it to the Governing Council for consideration and approval at its next meeting scheduled to take place before November ending.

The meeting came to a close at about 3.0pm, with a closing remark by Chief Okunowo. He thanked the Amb. Abreha and his management team for the visit and for the interest in collaborating with IoD to facilitate and promote business interests and opportunities among the Nigerian and Ethiopian business communities.
