IoDCCG: Blazing the Trail in Corporate Governance Resourcing



IoD Centre for Corporate Governance is a collaborative project of the Institute of Directors Nigeria (IoD), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). The Centre promotes the entrenchment of good corporate governance and leading practices in public and private sector organisations as well as complementing regulatory reform efforts through Corporate Governance advocacy, research, high-quality training, and other Corporate Governance initiatives.

The Centre’s Board of Governors is led by Chief (Mrs.) Eniola Fadayomi, DF.IoD, MFR with representation from IoD, SEC, CAC, NSE, CIBN, NACCIMA, while its management team is led by Dr. Nechi Ezeako, FCIS, HCIB, M.IoD.

In line with its mandate, the Centre is dedicated to its mission of working with key institutions in the public and private sectors, advocating and facilitating the maintenance of an effective Corporate Governance environment in Nigeria. This the Centre does by developing Corporate Governance framework for organisations including board charters and committee terms of reference, conducting surveys and research publications, carrying out Board Evaluations for Public Limited Companies and Board Inductions for organisations.

In furtherance of its collaboration with the Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), the Centre participated in a Train the trainer (ToT) workshop in Uganda on the delivery of training workshop on how businesses can mitigate corruption risks. Following from the ToT, the Centre now has three fully certified trainers and Consultants on mitigating the risks of Corruption in global business value chains.

There is also an ongoing collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) World Bank Group. The scope of the collaboration includes providing Corporate Governance training and best practice tools/publications, assisting in capacity building for corporate governance training and related services; providing training of trainers workshop for corporate governance training board evaluations; assisting IoDCCG to stay abreast of international good Corporate Governance practices through information sharing; development/publication of Corporate Governance–related knowledge products. The Centre presently boasts a pool of IFC-trained Board Evaluation experts from which it deploys faculty for its Board Evaluation and Board Induction mandates.

The Centre is currently carrying out a Baseline Survey Research on Anti-Corruption Compliance in partnership with CIPE and finalizing a Women on Boards publication in partnership with the Africa Corporate Governance Programme of the IFC and Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) which is based on a survey conducted by DCSL. In addition, the Centre runs the Corporate Governance Network (CGN) which is a network of professionals drawn from Corporate Governance stakeholders and specialists, while its Business Network for Ethics and Integrity is a network of organisations that promote anti-corruption, ethics and integrity. 

Other activities of the Centre include organizing Corporate Governance programmes, risk management programmes, internal audit management and quality improvement trainings, among others.
