IOD Nigeria Visits The Executive Governor of Ogun State

 

The Chairman & President of Council of IoD Nigeria, Chief Chris O. Okunowo, F.IoD led members of the Governing Council and the Executive Committee of Abeokuta to pay a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, M.IoD, on Wednesday 9th December 2020.

Members of the IoD Nigeria delegation included the following:

5. Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, F.IoD, Vice Chairman Health& Social Security Committee

6. Mr. Dele Alimi, M.IoD, Director General/CEO

7. Mr. Kene Nwanegbo, Asst. Director, Legal & Corporate Services

The President in his remarks saluted the Governor and his able team for the courage and commitment in building an enduring culture of good corporate governance and ethics in his administration and in the management of the affairs of Ogun State. He also expressed the wishes of IoD Nigeria to identify with the Governor in his administration’s vigorous pursuit of capacity development in the public sector of Ogun State and noted that IoD was willing to provide the much needed private sector perspective in improving the capacity of the civil service personnel. He noted that the IoD curriculum in corporate direction, good governance and visioning will go a long way in enriching Ogun State with a qualitative manpower that is essential in order to sustain the enviable status of Ogun State.

He informed the Governor of the desire of the Institute to partner more with his administration in its entrepreneurship development programme for young business entrepreneurs in Ogun State, while adding that the new programme of the Institute, tagged, “Young Directors Forum” was aimed at inculcating the values of good governance in the nation’s emerging young entrepreneurs, which is deemed to fit perfectly into his administration’s ongoing plan for mentoring young entrepreneurs for business sustainability and employment creation in Ogun State. Lastly he solicited the support of the Governor for the Institute’s plan to build its headquarters located at 8 Temple Road Ikoyi Lagos.

In his response, the Executive Governor, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, M.IoD thanked the President and Chairman of Governing Council, Chief Chris Okunowo, F.IoD and IoD Nigeria for the visit. He noted that IoD Nigeria has been at the forefront of Corporate Governance in Nigeria. He further noted that his administration was guided by the pillars of Corporate Governance, Transparency, Accountability, Fairness and Responsibility and noted that his administration had keyed to the concept of the words in the State Anthem,”Iseya”, which according to him, represented Infrastructure, Social welfare, Education, Youth empowerment and Agriculture, and were in line with the Global Sustainable Goals. He also seized the opportunity to highlight some of the achievements of his administration.  Finally, he made a commitment to work with IoD Nigeria with regard to capacity development and training, and noted the Institute’s request for support on its IoD House Project.
